Collection: FvB CYANOTYPE
Cyanotype, also called blueprint, is a photographic printing method, discovered and named by Sir John Herschel in England in 1842. Originally created to make copies of architecture plans and technical drawings, the cyanotype has since developed also into an artform in its own right. I personally discovered cyanotype about a decade ago when I stumbled upon an exhibition in Helsinki and ended up buying a small print for my home. I fell in love with the entire idea and the mesmerizing Prussian blue colour.
In 2024 I found myself on a course learning the basics of the process, and kept experimenting further during the summer. I have created these prints using photographs that I've taken from vintage (1924-1927) German "Elegant Welt" magazines that I've had for many years. They feature an abundance of beautiful fashion photography and pictures from thetrical, musical and other social events of the era. I felt it was a pity that nobody else could see them so I used cyanotype printing to bring out their mystical allure. So far I have only had these on view at my atelier and at sales events. Now currently available prints can be found here in the shop as well.
All prints are signed, original, unique pieces on 100% cotton aquarelle paper.
Welcome into the blue.
